在卡莉8岁时，她与妈妈Teresa Carlile演唱了約翰尼·卡什的歌曲《Tennessee Flat Top Box》[3]，15岁开始弹吉他和写歌。[4]16岁成为模仿猫王的后备歌手。[5]据卡莉介绍，她十几岁时被诊断出患有注意力不足過動症，随后辍学，以追求她的音乐生涯。[6]
