該黨是在2018年與民主黨（DIKO）領導人尼古拉斯·帕帕多普洛斯（Nikolas Papadopoulos）就解決塞浦路斯問題時應採取的方法產生分歧後成立的。 [3]該黨於2020年11月18日獲準加入歐洲自由民主聯盟黨（ALDE）。[4]
