1988年，艾勒莎受邀參加法國電視節目，演唱她的第二首單曲《Quelque chose dans mon coeur》。節目主持人吉恩-皮埃爾·傅柯（英语：Jean-Pierre Foucault）出人意料地邀請了格兰·梅德罗斯，艾勒莎是他的粉丝。兩位歌手相處融洽，最終決定一起錄製兩首歌：黛安·沃倫（英语：Diane Warren）創作的《Love Always Finds a Reason》，全英语錄製並收錄在格兰·梅德罗斯的專輯中；以及《Un Roman d' amitié》，其完整標題實際上是《Un Roman d'amitié (Friend You Give Me a Reason)》，见于單曲的封面上[1]。

這首雙語歌曲融合了英語和法語歌詞。词曲由羅比·布坎南、黛安·沃倫和迪迪埃·巴貝利維安（英语：Didier Barbelivien）創作。

MV由馬克西姆·魯伊斯完全在洛杉矶拍攝，從城鎮的夜景開始，然後可以看到两人或步行或騎自行車在城市的街道上漫步。
