Not the best quality partially down to poor light and weather conditions. This is the only photo in my collection of the class SM48 and wanted to include it in my collection of Polish railway pictures. Taken on 13 November 1994 at Bełżec in eastern Poland was SM48-001 in bitterly cold conditions. Based on the US designed and built ALCO RSD-1, these locos were constructed in the mid-1970s. Their original designation was ТЭМ2 (TEM2) and many thousands were built for the Soviet railways. 130 were built for PKP used on freights although they were assigned to passenger duties on short runs close to the Ukranian border. |
