Winston Churchill inspecting 9.2-inch Mk II howitzers of 57th (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery, during a tour of East Coast defences.
Comment 1 : The steel holdfast providing the base is visible above ground at front due to slope. The size of the 11 ton earth box mounted on it to provide stability is evident.


Comment 2 : The IWM caption incorrectly identifies these as 9.2 inch guns.
