B, C, D : wrough-iron coils
E : Tappet-ring
L : Lever-ring
P : Breech-piece : forging of wrought-iron
S : Breech-screw
T : Trunnion ring
V : Vent-piece incorporating a right-angled vent.
a : Powder chamber
b : Shot chamber
c : Grip : narrowing of bore to force lead coating on projectile to engage with rifling grooves
