三叉神經
三叉神經（Trigeminal nerve）是第五對腦神經，為混合神經，也就是既含有運動神經又含有感覺神經。感覺部分收集來自面部和頭部的信息，運動部分則控制咀嚼肌。三叉神經是面部最粗大的神經，它的運動部分從腦橋與腦橋臂交界處出腦，再併入下頜神經，一同經卵圓孔穿出顱部。而它的感覺部分的胞體組成位於顳骨岩部尖端的三叉神經節，三叉神經節又分出三條分支（這也就是它叫三叉神經的原因），第一分支為眼神經（Ophthalmic branch），第二分支為上頜神經（Maxillary branch），第三分支為下頜神經（Mandibular branch）。支配臉部、口腔、鼻腔的感覺和咀嚼肌的運動，並將頭部的感覺訊息傳送至大腦。

- 第一分支眼神經(Ophthalmic)
眼神經是三條分支中最小的一支，僅含一般軀體感覺纖維，在三叉神經節處與上頜神經及下頜神經分開後，穿入海綿竇外側壁，在動眼神經和滑車神經下方經眶上裂入進入眶部。眼神經又有三條分支：淚腺神經（lacrimal nerve）、額神經（frontal nerve）、鼻睫神經（nasociliary nerve）。
- 第二分支上頜神經(Maxillary)
上頜神經僅含一般軀體感覺纖維，從三叉神經節出發後同樣進入海綿竇外側，在圓孔（Foramen rotundum）處出顱後進入翼齶窩，經眶下裂進入入眶部，成為眶下神經。它的主要分支有上牙槽神經（前、後、中）Superior alveolar nerve (anterior, posterior and middle)，中腦膜神經 (Middle meningeal nerve)，眶下神經 (Infraorbital nerve)，顴神經(Zygomatic nerve)，下瞼神經(Inferior palpebral nerve)，上唇神經(Superior labial nerve)，咽神經(Pharyngeal nerve)，齶大神經和顎小神經(Greater and lesser palatine nerves)，鼻齶神經(Nasopalatine nerve)
- 第三分支下頜神經(mandibular)
下頜神經是三條分支中最粗大的分支，它還包括了三叉神經運動支。離開三叉神經節並從卵圓孔（Foramen ovale）出顱後，它在翼外肌的深面分為前、後兩條主幹。除三叉神經運動支外，它包括的神經還有耳顳神經（auriculotemporal nerve）、頰神經（buccal nerve）、舌神經（lingual nerve）、下牙槽神經（inferior alveolar nerve）。
三叉神經的運動根連接三叉神經節遠端的感覺成分，並將其軸突分佈到咀嚼肌(mastication)：咬肌(Masseter)，內側和外側翼狀肌(Medial and lateral pterygoids)，顳肌(Temporalis)。
