藍翅雁體重約1520克，翼長約326.2毫米，嘴峰長約31毫米，喙寬度約16.4毫米，喙厚度約13.3毫米，跗蹠長約56.2毫米，尾長約112.5毫米。藍翅雁在其分布區內為留鳥，其棲息在開放的草原環境中，食性為草食性。[3]
