維倫多夫的維納斯

維倫多夫的維納斯（德語：Venus von Willendorf）是一尊高11.1厘米（4.4英寸）的維納斯小像，製作於距今25,000至30,000年之前。[1][2]此塑像由考古學家約瑟夫·松鮑蒂、胡戈·奧伯邁爾和約瑟夫·拜爾於1908年8月7日在下奧地利瓦豪的維倫多夫附近的一處舊石器時代遺址進行考古工作時，由一位名叫約翰·韋蘭[3]（或名曰約瑟夫·維拉姆[4]）的工人發現的。[5][6]該塑像的原材料為來自其它地方的鮞粒石灰岩，並且還曾用赭石進行過染色。目前這尊雕像已被維也納自然史博物館收藏。[7]

這尊塑像可能和33,000年至20,000年前舊石器時代晚期的格拉維特工藝有關。根據對出土處周圍土層進行碳十四檢定可知此雕像大約是在25,000年前被埋在土裏的。[1]

早在19世紀至20世紀初期，就有很多類似的塑像出土。這種雕像在考古學上被稱為「維納斯」像，由於其誇張的女性特徵而被很多人認為是掌管生育的神像，即地母神。不過由於這個塑像比羅馬神話中的維納斯早了數萬年，因此很多考古學家拒絕稱其為「維倫多夫的維納斯」，而是稱其為「維倫多夫的女人」或「來自維倫多夫的女人」。[8][9]

目前人們對這個雕像的起源、製作方式以及文化意涵知之甚少，只知它屬於歐洲舊石器時代晚期，是眾多保存至今的維納斯小像之一。[10]其用途也引發了廣泛猜測。這座塑像沒有腳，無法獨自豎立在地面上，但可以插在鬆軟的泥土地上。由於這個雕像和生殖相關的身體部位非常突出，因此有研究人員相信她就是掌管生育的女神。[10]此塑像無臉，頭頂的條帶狀物體可能是辮子抑或是頭飾。[11]

研究人員嘉芙蓮·麥考德和勒羅伊·麥克德莫特認為，這尊雕像是當時的女性以自己身體為樣本創作。由於當時沒有鏡子，創作只能通過低頭觀察自己的身體進行創作，因此身體比例非常誇張，而塑像缺乏面部器官也是基於同樣的原因；另一位研究人員米高·S· 比森則駁斥了這種說法，他認為舊石器時期的人類完全可以將隨處可見的水池或水坑當作鏡子。[12]

根據2022年的一項研究顯示，這個塑像的石料有可能來自意大利的加爾達湖畔，也有可能來自遠在1600公里外的烏克蘭東部地區。雖然從統計學上講前者概率更高，但後者的周邊地帶曾出土過不少風格相似的雕像。不過無論真實情況如何，都可以說明舊石器時期的人類有很高的流動性。[2]
