詹姆斯·霍格
詹姆斯·霍格（英語：James Hogg，1770年—1835年11月21日）是一位蘇格蘭作家、詩人。他本是蘇格蘭埃特里克的牧羊人，靠自學成才，因此後來獲得「埃特里克的牧羊人」（Ettrick Shepherd）之稱，結識了沃爾特·斯科特等大作家。其成名作為《一個稱義罪人的私下回憶錄與自白書》（The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner） 。

1770年，他出生於蘇格蘭埃特里克的一個小農場，是家中次子，具體出生時間已無法考證[1]。他的父親羅伯特（1729–1820）是一名佃農，其母瑪格麗特（原姓Laidlaw，1730–1813）喜歡收集蘇格蘭民謠[1][2]。他曾在當地的教區學校里上過幾個月學，但很快因父親破產而輟學，他只好在靠給鄰居當牧羊人補貼家用。他的早期文學知識來自聖經和其母、其叔講給他的故事[3]。後來又在給其他人家當牧羊人的過程中學會讀報[4]。 1801年，他受僱給沃爾特·斯科特的《蘇格蘭邊區歌謠集》（The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border）收集民謠，後來得到機會見到斯科特本人，並開始在《愛丁堡雜誌》工作[5]，開啟他的文學生涯。
