碗賽
碗賽（英語：bowl game），是美國對年度大學橄欖球季後賽的稱呼，現在也延伸用於指代其他重要的橄欖球賽。碗賽的前身可以追溯1902年起在加州帕薩迪納舉行的東西部橄欖球對抗賽（Tournament East–West football game）。1923年，對抗賽移到新建的玫瑰碗體育場舉行。因為該體育場的看台呈碗型環繞，因而得名「玫瑰碗」，之前的東西部對抗賽也開始被稱作「玫瑰碗賽」。[1][2]

1923年，在加州帕薩迪納玫瑰碗體育場里開始舉辦每年一次的玫瑰碗賽。[2]在賽事取得成功後，其他一些地區也開始效仿，並也將自己的年度大學橄欖球比賽命名為「某某碗」。到1937年，已經出現了砂糖碗、太陽碗、橘子碗和棉花碗比賽。[1][3]到1940年代後期，已經有了14場NCAA認可的碗賽，以及另外50多場低級別球隊參加的碗賽。這些低級別球隊參與的碗賽名稱五花八門，例如沙拉碗、葡萄碗、玻璃碗、玉米碗、碘碗、樂觀主義者碗、石油碗、冰箱碗和雪茄碗等。碗賽規模的擴張引發了NCAA內部的爭論，NCAA於是開始限制官方碗賽的數量為7-9場。其他非NCAA認可的碗賽在1950年代期間仍在舉辦，到1950年末基本都已停辦。[4][3]
1970年代開始，NCAA開始擴大官方碗賽規模。到1980年增加到15場碗賽，1997年增加到20場，2011年增加到35場。[4][5]到2022年已經擴張到每年44場碗賽的規模。[6]

國家美式橄欖球聯盟（NFL）也在一些比賽中使用碗賽的稱呼。1951年，NFL舉辦了首屆職業碗比賽。[15]自1968年起，NFL冠軍賽被命名為超級碗。[16]
