萨特磨坊陨石

萨特磨坊陨石是碳质球粒陨石，于2012年4月22日进入地球的大气层，并且在清晨07:51 (太平洋时间) 碎裂[6][7]。在2012年5月3日，艾美斯研究中心和SETI协会的科学家利用飞船获得当时满是植被的散布区的空照图，协助寻获更多的远石碎片[8]。在2012年11月，75颗碎片的记录与找到的位置被公布，最大的一颗 (SM53) 重量为205公克[4][9]，第二大的 (SM50) 重量只有42公克[9]。

在2012年四月天琴座流星雨的期间，一颗火流星和音爆在2012年4月22日大约07:51 (PDT) 撼动了加利福尼亚州和内华达的建筑物[14]。在空中爆炸的火球很可能是偶发流星，而不是天琴座流星雨的成员[15]。这个火球非常明亮，以至目击著事后仍看见斑点[16]。有两个全面核禁试条约组织国际监测系统的次声波监测站记录到此一事件[17]。初步的分析指出其能量大约当同于4千吨TNT[17]。广岛的小男孩原子弹仅有16千吨TNT。这颗流星体的大小可能介于洗碗机[18]和多功能休旅车 [19]之间，空中爆炸位置的座标大约是37°36′N 120°30′W / 37.6°N 120.5°W / 37.6; -120.5[2]。坠落的陨石体被气象雷达撷取到，中心位置在加州普莱瑟郡下辖的奥本，位于洛马的萨特磨坊[7]。

2012年4月24日，罗伯特·沃德就在加州科洛马正西边的汉宁臣莲花公园发现一颗小的CM球粒陨石碎片[20]。几天后，流星天文学家彼得·央斯基在同一个公园的停车场发现4公克重的陨石碎片，Brien Cook 在莲花的彼得森路上发现5公克重的陨石碎片。在2012年5月1日，詹姆斯 W.州立马绍尔黄金发现历史公园的护林员苏西·马丁就在她家前面的院子发现两颗陨石 (重11.5公克的SM14)。公园包括现在被称为萨特磨坊的地点[21]。

此一事件类似1969年发生在澳洲的默奇森陨石。在加州，只有另外两次坠落陨石的目击记录：2007年8月11日在红峡谷湖和1973年3月15日在圣璜卡匹斯川诺市[22]。相较之下，此一事件理论上有4千吨TNT的能量[17]，在新墨西哥三位一体核试的能量约是18千吨TNT当量[23]，和小男孩仅有16千吨TNT当量的爆炸力，也就是6.3 × 1013 焦耳 = 63 TJ (太拉焦耳)[24]。

因为估计进入的流星体直径在2-4米，原始留星体的绝对星等 (H) 大约是31等[25]。
