1947年，奧莫斯出生在美國加利福尼亞州洛杉磯，母親伊莉諾，父親佩德羅·奧莫斯，父親曾經是焊工和郵遞員。^[1]^[2] 奧莫斯的父親和母親都是墨西哥人。^[3] 孩提時，奧莫斯想當一個職業棒球手，少年時代，他的興趣轉向音樂，尤其是搖滾樂。^[4] 1964年，奧莫斯高中畢業後，在東洛杉磯學院學習戲劇表演。^[5]

1971年，奧莫斯和卡迪加·凱爾結婚，兩人育有2個孩子，後來，奧莫斯領養了一個孩子。
