短翅水鸡
已经灭绝的一个物种
短翅水鸡（Porphyrio mantelli），又名巨水鸡，是新西兰北岛的一种秧鸡。根据它们的亚化石及一个于1984年采集的可能标本，估计它们不能飞行。[2]

短翅水鸡的衰落一般认为是因在全新世时，森林入侵高山草原。另外，它们亦可能被毛利人大量的猎杀。
传统上认为短翅水鸡是与南秧鸡是同一物种，后来发现它们是各自演化自独立的祖先，所以是不同的物种。[3]
短翅水鸡的学名是为纪念自然学家沃尔特·曼特尔（Walter Mantell）。
