分類命名與歷史 编辑
該屬由德國鳥類學家路德維希·賴興巴赫於1853年建立，並指定了大鹱作為本屬模式種。[3][1]屬名Ardenna來自於1603年義大利科學家乌利塞·阿尔德罗万迪給予信天翁的名字「Ardenna」或「Artenna」。[4]
分類學 编辑
在生物分類學中，水薙鳥屬被建立後有一段時間一直被視為是剪水鸌屬的異名，即本屬成員都被歸於剪水鸌屬下。[5]一份於2004年對鸌科鳥類粒線體DNA的研究顯示，剪水鸌屬為一多系群，本屬因而被重新「復活」。[6][7]而2022年的研究也支持了這一分類。[8]
