English: Marking the first religious architecture designed by Ando, the Chapel on Mt. Rokko is located on a sloped terrain in Kobe. During the design process, Ando first envisioned the image of a Romanesque monastery corridor from the Middle Ages. By extracting the essence of these traditional religious spaces, Ando created a minimalist realization of the space for prayer which utilizes his architecture style. The pure geometric space of circles and squares range in scale from the detail to the entirety of the chapel.
