English: A comparison of the two versions of the Heiti TC font with the forms of characters in traditional printing typefaces as exemplified by the Kangxi Dictionary. The original Heiti TC follows the centuries-old traditional typefaces faithfully, like many other fonts in use today. When the Heiti TC font was released as the system font in the traditional Chinese version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, some Taiwanese users, out of ignorance to traditional printing typefaces, denounced this font for its "wrong characters" because these characters differ from the standard set by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan in recent years, and started a petition to Apple to "fix" it, so the new version of Heiti TC has been changed accordingly. However, the new standard alters printing typefaces to conform with handwriting, resulting in a significant deviation from traditional printing typefaces. Traditional printing typefaces differentiate similar-looking parts of characters with different original forms in the seal script, when these parts have already merged to identical parts in handwriting. The M.O.E. doesn't respect these differentiations in printing typefaces and set those parts to look identical in its standard, hence the principles of formation of these Chinese characters meticulously preserved in traditional printing typefaces and the original Heiti TC are lost in the M.O.E. standard and the new Heiti TC.
