Philip the Handsome (1478-1506) was the son of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. He became King Philip I of Castile in 1504. His portrait was painted by an unknown master active at the end of the 15th and the beginning of 16th century in Bruges and Brussels, who is referred to as the Master of the Mary Magdalen Legend.
