Anal pale, with broad dark submarginalband. Caudal with five inclined, narrow, whitish bars along upperrays, hind edge of fin dark all around besides dark semitransversebasal band. Paired fins pale, dark blotch at upper base of pectoral. Differs from Synchiropus pallidus in having the end of the pre-opercle spine upturned or vertical, the second dorsal with threehorizontal white stripes and the female with a dark blotch on thethird membrane of first dorsal. Type.—U.S.N.M. No. 99524. D. 5589. Mabul Island (NW.), N.3° W., 2.8 miles (lat. 4°1210 N., long. 118°3808 E.), Sibuko Bay,Borneo and vicinity. In 260 fathoms. September 29, 1909. No.1959.
