2014年2月25日，华纳兄弟和CBS电影（英语：CBS Films）宣布开发史蒂芬·金的小说《末日逼近》。乔什·布恩有望执导电影，罗伊·李（英语：Roy Lee）和吉米·米勒将担当监制[4]。2015年6月，消息称小说将在电影上映前先改编为8集迷你剧[5]。2016年2月，电影项目被搁置，影视改编权从华纳回归到CBS电影，迷你剧的项目同样被舍弃[6]。
