海蛳螺科

海蛳螺科（学名：Epitoniidae）[5]是一个小型、猎食性或外寄生性的海洋腹足纲软体动物下的一科。旧属异腹足目，今属高腹足类支序翼舌类[3]。代表物种有绮蛳螺等。当紫螺科未被合并进本科前，本科物种通常都是白色的。

紫螺科（学名：Janthinidae），又名海蜗牛科，原是海蛳螺总科之下的一科，但现时已合并到海蛳螺科去了。这组浮游生物的腹足已演化为桨状，以产生黏液泡泡来其身体“浮”起来[6]

本科物种的栖息地散布居全世界的海洋，从热带地区到南北极。

形态描述 编辑

本科物种大多数都是白色的、有着陶瓷般的外表。这些海螺的复杂几何壳体结构是值得注意的，而较大物种的贝壳是收藏家所珍视的。

类似炮塔形的螺壳由紧密缠绕（也有时缠绕比较松散）的凸起螺层形成，产生高高的锥状螺旋。 许多物种中存在精细或微观的螺旋形条纹（英语：striae）（striae）。 贝壳有时具有脐孔。 本科物种的螺壳具有圆形[7][8]或椭圆形的壳口 ，一种通常只见于植食性物种的壳口[7][8]。其内唇通常都缩小到成为了一条“愈伤组织”（callus）。 圆形和角质的口盖上只有稀少的螺旋纹双向的，并且紧密地封闭壳口。本科大多数物种的体型都是从小型到微细型，尽管有些物种会比较大，整个科的成螺的壳长在0.6和11.7厘米之间变化[9]。

在本科的模式属海蛳螺属的物种，其壳主要是轴向的雕塑，高度锐利的肋骨“花被”（costae）。这些螺肋可以提供一些防止其他捕食性蜗牛的保护，这将会发现难以或不可能在具有这种障碍物的壳中钻孔。

本科物种通常可在海葵或珊瑚附近的沙质底部发现，因为这些物种都是海蛳螺科物种的食物来源。有些物种属于觅食者（英语：Forage），会主动寻找海葵作食用。

关于大多数海蛳螺科物种的生物学特征知之甚少，当中以Keen (1958)的描述最常被引用[7][8]。许多本科物种会刻意露出一部分其紫色的身体，显示这些物种可能是肉食性物种[8]。这些物种可以通过其唾液腺分泌出粉红色或紫色染料，可能对其猎物产生麻醉作用。Keen还引用了一次直接观察：一只海蛳螺通过将其长鼻（英语：proboscis）插入海葵中进食[8]。

另外亦有已出版的文献描述一种本科物种（着色海蛳螺 Epitonium tinctum；文献撰写时仍叫作Nitidiscala tincta）进食海葵时的步骤[10]。这些海螺还会捕食珊瑚和其他腔肠动物。此外，雌性物种会将其诞下的卵子连结到卵䇲内，以其黏液覆盖，埋在沙中：当这些卵䇲孵化，幼体会从卵䇲脱出，成为自由游动的幼虫[10]。

海蛳螺科旧属车轮螺总科[7]，现时跟远洋带的Nystiellidae科组成了海蛳螺总科，而海蛳螺总科亦是翼舌类非正式群组（Ptenoglossa）的成员。海蛳螺科是一个颇大的科，有约630个物种[2]。本分类旧属中腹足目[11][12]，也曾属于异腹足目。
