月牙华美天堂鸟（学名：Lophorina niedda）^[2]，又称福格科普华美天堂鸟（Vogelkop superb bird-of-paradise），属于极乐鸟科，为印度尼西亚西巴布亚多贝拉伊半岛的特有种^[3]，最初由恩斯特·瓦尔特·迈尔于1930年发表命名，并被认为是华美风鸟的亚种，直到2017年才被重新定义为独立物种^[2]。2018年，更多特征，包括特别漆黑的羽毛（能吸收99.95%的光线）^[4]以及雄性求偶行为上的差异更加佐证了它们与华美天堂鸟属于不同的物种^[3]^[5]。

命名学

月牙华美天堂鸟的学名“Lophorina niedda”的属名“lophorina”意思为“长有绒羽的鼻”，源自于它们鼻孔后方向上翘的两簇绒羽，而种小名“niedda”则来自于当地原住民称呼天堂鸟的拟声词。

系统分类学

月牙华美天堂鸟最初被认为是华美风鸟的亚种，然而，于2017年，它们被正式确立为是独立的新物种^[2]。目前已知月牙华美天堂鸟具有两个亚种，分别为分布于温达马半岛（英语：Wandammen Peninsula）的L. n. niedda，以及分布于多贝拉伊半岛的L. n. inopinata^[2]。除了地理上的隔阂，它们在求偶行为上也有存在差异^[3]。

不过，这样的分类仍然有存在争议；inopinata亚种目前包含了之前被称为L. superba superba的物种，却被赋予了新的学名^[2]。分类学家认为，不论存在多少证据，已经通用了超过200年的名称不应该被取代^[6]。

栖息与分布地

月牙华美天堂鸟主要分布于印度尼西亚西巴布亚多贝拉伊半岛海拔1,200—2,000米（3,900—6,600英尺）^[2]的山区^[1]。
