綠刺尾蜂鳥體重約3克，翼長約42.2毫米，嘴峰長約14.4毫米，喙寬度約1.3毫米，喙厚度約1.3毫米，跗蹠長約6.4毫米，尾長約42毫米。綠刺尾蜂鳥在其分佈區內為留鳥，其棲息在密集的高大樹木組成的森林中，食性為草食性，主要食物來源是植物的花蜜。[3]
