領燕鴴體重約84.9克，翼長約181.6毫米，嘴峰長約20.1毫米，喙寬度約4.9毫米，喙厚度約6毫米，跗蹠長約30.9毫米，尾長約106毫米。領燕鴴是候鳥，其棲息在開放的草原環境中，食性為肉食性，主要食物來源是陸生無脊椎動物。[3]
