威廉·丹佛
威廉·丹佛（英語：William G. Dever 1933年11月27日—，出生於美國肯塔基州的路易維爾[1]）是一個美國考古學家與舊約聖經的學者，專長於聖經時代（聖經中發生的年代）古以色列和古代近東歷史。1975年至2002年間，曾擔任美國亞利桑那大學的近東考古和人類學教授。 他亦是萊康明大學近東考古學的名譽教授。

退休後，丹佛經常在聖經歷史性相關的問題上發表論述，也常批判否定聖經歷史價值的學者。但丹佛也不是聖經直譯主義的支持者，他曾寫道：
我並不把聖經當做聖典來讀…… 我實際上甚至不是有神論者。我一直以來的觀點（特別是在我最近寫的幾本書中），首先聖經的敘述確實是「故事」，其經常是虛構的並帶有宣傳性質，但這些故事常包含可靠的歷史訊息。[2]
現今的考古學必須能夠挑戰和證實聖經敘事。聖經里的描寫的某些事確實發生了，而某些則無。關於亞伯拉罕、摩西、約書亞和所羅門的敘述可能反應了一些對於人與地域的歷史記憶，但聖經「超群不凡」的印象是不現實並與考古證據相矛盾。[3]
