花樣滑冰
編輯花樣滑冰的冰刀底部有個槽，形成兩個邊緣，被稱作內刃與外刃。在花樣滑冰運動中，運動員同一時間只能使用一種刃，而不能用平刃。單人滑及雙人滑使用的冰鞋，冰刀前端有大而呈鋸齒狀的刀齒，冰舞所使用的冰刀則短一英寸，刀齒也較小。
花樣滑冰有從初級到奧運等級的各類型競賽，包括地方的、國家的以及國際競賽，國際滑冰聯盟規範了花樣滑冰競賽的形式及裁判方式，包括冬季奧運會、世界錦標賽、青少年世錦賽、歐州錦標賽、四大洲錦標賽 以及大獎賽總決賽（成人組與青少年組）。
這項運動與表演生意也有關係：各大賽賽後均有答謝表演，由名列前茅的運動員演出非競賽節目，而許多運動員在他們的選手及職業生涯中，都曾在滑冰秀中表演。
冰鞋

花樣滑冰冰鞋與冰球冰鞋最大的不同在於花樣滑冰鞋冰刀前端有大且呈鋸齒狀的「刀齒」，刀齒主要用在跳躍上，而不能用於蹭冰或旋轉。冰刀以螺絲安裝在冰鞋的鞋底和鞋跟上。一般而言，高階的運動員會在他們生活的區域找有信譽的專業冰鞋店來安裝冰刀與冰鞋，甚至僱專業人士依個別需求磨利冰刀[1]。
冰刀大約4.7 mm薄，從側面看起來並不是平的，而稍微彎曲，形成半徑約180-220 cm的弧形。這個曲率被稱為「刀鋒弧度」（rocker of the blade）。冰刀的「甜蜜點」在腳底 The sweet spot of the blade is below the ball of the foot。[2] This spot is usually located near the stanchion of the blade, and is the part of the blade where all spins are spun on. The blade is also hollow ground; a groove on the bottom of the blade creates two distinct edges, inside and outside. The inside edge of the blade is on the side closest to the skater; the outside edge of the blade is on the side farthest from the skater. In figure skating, it is always desirable to skate on only one edge of the blade. Skating on both at the same time (which is referred to as a flat) may result in lower skating skills scores. The apparently effortless power and glide across the ice exhibited by elite figure skaters fundamentally derives from efficient use of the edges to generate speed.

The guard protects the blade from dirt or material on the ground that may dull the blade. Soft blade covers called soakers are used to absorb condensation and protect the blades from rust when the skates are not being worn. In competition, skaters may have three minutes to make repairs to their skates.
