该基因编码含有死亡效应结构域(DED)的蛋白质。DED是程序性细胞死亡途径的衔接子调节子执行子共享的蛋白质相互作用域。该基因的过度表达被证明可诱导微弱的细胞凋亡。在刺激作用下,发现该蛋白从细胞质易位到细胞核,并与UBTF共定位在核仁中,UBTF是RNA聚合酶I转录所需的基础因子。该基因至少有三种编码相同蛋白质的转录变体。[8]
