Cogent的AS（編號174）是網際網路上具有最高連接度（英語：Degree (graph theory)）排名的AS之一[3][4]。同時也負責C.root-servers.net這組根域名伺服器的運作。

Cogent成立於1999年，是網際網路通訊業增長的高峰期，由包括Keiretsu Forum（英語：Keiretsu Forum）成員在內的天使投資人出資。[5]在三年來，Cogent共收購了13家運營商，以6000萬美元購買了140億美元的資本，包括包括價值40億美元的物業、廠房和裝置。[6]

對等連接 編輯

Cogent在ISP市場中的低頻寬定價及與AOL（2003）、[16] France Telecom（2006）、[17] Level 3 Communications（2005）、[18] TeliaSonera（2008年3月）[19]和Sprint Nextel（2008年10月）。[20]的對等連接（英語：Peering）一直存在爭議。

2008年3月14日，Cogent停止路由來自歐洲網路提供商Telia（AS 1299）的封包，這兩個網路之間失去連通性。該連接在2008年3月28日重新建立，在美國和歐洲設有互連點。[21]

2011年6月6日，Cogent自動停止與能源科學網（ESnet）的對等連接[22]，導致3天的中斷。

Cogent尚未同意與最大的IPv6連接提供商Hurricane Electric對等連接。截至2016年3月，不能在兩個網路之間直接連接。[23]Cogent與Google的IPv6對等連接也已在2016年停止。[24]

2017年2月，Cogent封鎖眾多盜版和串流媒體網站，包括海盜灣。[25]
