該科的化石發現於白堊紀晚期之後，最早的化石包括在加利福尼亞科尼亞克階-麥斯里希特階發現的Archaeopus antennatus，和在日本土侖階-麥斯特里希特階發現的Archaeopus ezoensis。[6]
