Hi Mkn: Thanks for your suggestions. :) The idea of putting calendar-related information did crop up in the Village Pump some time ago (see Wikipedia:互助客棧#要不要在首頁加上農曆的年月日期), but the discussion seems to have died out. I guess we're all waiting for someone to write a bot that would take care of this. :)
Also, about seasonal topics — my impression is that this is a rather "Japanese-y" thing, and probably not very suitable for the Chinese Wikipedia.

- I hope your comment about the seasonal topics is not stemming from anti-Japanese sentiments and patriotism which seems to be the case in China these days. When I was making the Main page suggestion, I drew inspiration from the Korean, Japanese and European portals.
- When I included the calendar, it seems natural to include links to articles related to the time period such as what festivals (around the world) occur in the current month and also what topics are related to the current season. Does this not seem logical to you? How is this "Japanese-y"? How is this "not very suitable for the Chinese Wikipedia"? Hence my impression of a racist remark on your part. (By the way, no offence is intended, but I think there's no shame in taking inspiration from other portals)
- I have also helped with the Main page layout on the English version of Wikibooks. Since I'm not good at writing content, I pretty much just try to help with improving design. -- Mkn 00:06 2005年4月10日 (UTC)

the main page history
編輯Hi. Mkn, I saw your design. It is a big change to zh wikipedia. I am the 'ugly' vision designer. Well...not layout setter (they mainly want the layout to be similiar with en wiki), but the icon provider. The thing I did last Oct is only change color and provides icons (with extra request: chinese style) I don't have too much freedom as you did such a big change. The main page history was running through many zh wiki people's different opinions, especially THE FONT SIZE. Meanwhile, I am not active to re-design the main page that time. The only reason is I might be first person there said I have design background on user page.
Anyhow, that is the brief history. If you really want zh wiki's main page follow your design. You may need to create a vote page. Descript your concept and be duty to finish the possible remodify request. I was suffering by that for over two weeks. Then they don't even have a conclusion...Finally, one active guy just update it.
So, according to the history, you may meet two problems. one is FONT SIZE. one is the Chinese style. In my point of view, small font is just perfect for me. At the first look, your layout was too complex on right panel. Also, you forget to design by using main page templates. template effects the layout, you know...
I don't know how to say Chinese style right. Briefly, it has to deliver a feeling of China culture. That's all I can say.--阿福( Talk) 16:30 2005年4月10日 (UTC)
