陛下之UB-12號艇（德語：SM UB 12[註 1]）是德意志帝國海軍於第一次世界大戰期間建造的其中一艘UB-I型近岸作戰潛艦（英語：Coastal submarine）或稱U艇。它由不來梅的威悉船廠承建，自1914年11月7日開始鋪設龍骨。其全長略小於28公尺，水面及水下排水量分別為127噸和141噸，艇載武器除兩具450公釐的艇艏魚雷發射管外，還有一挺安裝在甲板上的機槍。完工後的艇體被拆解成若干部分並通過鐵路運輸至安特衛普進行重新組裝。它於1915年2月下水並以UB-12號之名交付使用（英語：Ship commissioning）。

UB-12號的整個服役生涯都是在法蘭德斯區艦隊度過的，期間共擊沉22艘船舶，其中近半數為英國漁船。此外，它還於1917年擊沉了英國驅逐艦拉福雷號（英語：HMS Laforey (1913)）。至1917年初，該艇已被改裝成一艘布雷艇，用四個水雷斜槽替換了魚雷發射管。UB-12號於1918年8月19日從澤布呂赫離港之後失蹤。

設計及建造 編輯

在第一次世界大戰初期，隨著德意志帝國陸軍沿北海海岸快速推進，比利時法蘭德斯沿岸的安特衛普、澤布呂赫和奧斯滕德等港口相繼落入德國人手中，這大大方便了德軍潛艦遣出英吉利海峽的作戰行動。然而，帝國海軍當時卻缺乏適合在法蘭德斯周邊狹窄的淺海中行動的U艇。[14]為此，1914年8月中旬開始設計的「34號工程」催生出了UB-I型潛艦，[15]這是一種可以通過鐵路運輸發往作戰港口並能夠迅速組裝的小型近岸潛艦（英語：Coastal submarine）。[16]為滿足鐵路限界（英語：Loading gauge）的要求，UB-I型的設計需要艇長在28公尺左右，排水量約125噸，並裝備兩具魚雷發射管。[14][註 2]UB-12號作為由國家海軍辦公室委託不來梅威悉船廠建造的首批7艘UB-I型潛艦（UB-9至UB-15號）中的一部分，於1914年10月15日訂購，此時距離該艇型的設計啟動尚不足兩個月。[18]

UB-12號自1914年11月7日開始鋪設龍骨。[1]竣工時，UB-12號的全長為27.88公尺，舷寬3.15公尺，有3.03公尺的吃水深度。它搭載有一台功率為44千瓦特（59匹軸馬力）的科爾庭（英語：Körting Hannover）四缸四衝程柴油發動機用於水面運行，以及一台89千瓦特（119匹軸馬力）的西門子-舒克特（英語：Siemens-Schuckert）電動發電機用於水下航行；[14]兩者都與一副單螺旋槳軸相連，可分別提供最高7.45節（13.80公里每小時）的水面航速和最高6.24節（11.56公里每小時）的水下航速。在更勻速的狀態下，它可以連續在水面航行1,500海里（2,800公里）而無需加油，或連續在水下航行45海里（83公里）而無需充電。與同型的所有姊妹艇一樣，UB-12號的潛航深度為50公尺，可以在33秒內完全潛入水中。[2]

在武器裝備方面，UB-12號內置有兩具450公釐的艇艏魚雷發射管，可裝載2枚C/03型魚雷，艦橋前部的甲板上則設有一挺可拆卸的8公釐機槍。其標準船員編制為1名軍官加13名水兵。[19][16]

在威悉船廠的建造完成後，UB-12號已準備好用於鐵路運輸。鐵運的過程包括將潛艦拆解成一個實質上的散裝套件。每艘艇被分成大約15塊，其中艇體分解為三部分裝在平板車上，艦橋、蓄電池和上層建築中的相關設備裝入另外五節車廂中。[16]1915年2月，UB-12號的部件被運到安特衛普的霍博肯進行組裝，通常需要耗時兩至三周。當至3月2日完成組裝並下水後，[1]該艇再被裝入浮箱由兩艘駁船拖曳，用時五天半沿斯海爾德河西下、並穿過根特－布魯日運河送抵澤布呂赫的作戰港口進行海試。[19][20]

1915年3月29日，UB-12號在首次擔任U艇艇長、時年29歲的海軍中尉漢斯·尼蘭的指揮下正式入役（英語：Ship commissioning）。[5][註 3]4月18日，該艇加入了稍早前於3月29日組建的法蘭德斯區艦隊。[19]當UB-12號入列時，德國正處於自2月發動的第一輪潛艦攻勢（英語：U-boat campaign）之中。在這場戰役期間，所有出現在德國劃定的戰區內的敵方艦船都將被擊沉，該戰區涵括了英國周邊的所有水域（含英吉利海峽）。中立國的船舶則不得受到攻擊，除非它們確實能被認出是懸掛假旗航行的敵對船舶。[22]

7月24日，尼蘭率UB-12號在距洛斯托夫特東北偏東約30海里（56公里）的海域巡邏時，擊沉了四艘英國漁船。[23][24]這四艘傳統上使用赭紅色風帆[25]的平底漁船（德語：Schmack）全數是被UB-12號的官兵截停、登船並使用炸藥鑿沉。[26]UB-12號於8月4日在同一海域附近又擊沉了兩艘、[26][27]8月23日至25日又擊沉了三艘此類平底漁船。[26][28]

11月21日，海軍中尉威廉·基爾接替尼蘭擔任UB-12號艇長。[6]在基爾的指揮下，UB-12號於1916年2月21日擊沉了三艘船：92總噸的比利時漁船小亨里特號（La Petite Henriette）[29]——這是當時UB-12號所擊沉的最大的一艘船，[23]以及另外兩艘英國平底漁船夾竹桃號（Oleander）和W·E·布朗號（W.E. Brown）。[30]

UB-12號於4月10日擊沉了其服役生涯中最大的一艘船——容積總噸為4777噸的錫爾克斯沃思莊園號（Silksworth Hall）。這艘英國註冊的貨輪當時正空載從赫爾駛往費城，在沒有收到任何警告的情況下，於科頓燈船（英語：Corton, Suffolk）對開約1海里（1.9公里）處被基爾發射的魚雷擊中。[31]附近船隻從錫爾克斯沃思莊園號救出31名倖存者，但有3人失蹤。[31][32]當月下旬，德國公海艦隊新任總司令、海軍上將賴因哈德·舍爾叫停了對商船的攻擊，並下令在海上的艦艇返航，不允許任何艦艇離開其港口。[33]

伏擊大艦隊 編輯

舍爾將軍於5月中旬制定了伏擊部分英國大艦隊的計劃。[34]公海艦隊將突襲桑德蘭，[35]引誘英國艦隊穿過「由潛艦和雷區組成的『巢穴』」。[34]為了支持這次行動，UB-12號與另外五艘法蘭德斯區艦隊的潛艦於5月30－31日午夜出發，在洛斯托夫特以東約18海里（33公里）處組成一條船位線（英語：Position line）。[35][註 4]這支部隊將攔截並攻擊從哈維奇出發的英國輕型部隊，以防它們向北出擊加入戰鬥。[35]但對德國人而言不幸的是，英國海軍部已經得到的情報顯示有潛艦離港，但並未襲擊船隻，這引起了英國人的懷疑。[34]

公海艦隊因自身的出擊（已轉向斯卡格拉克）而推遲了啟程，駐紮在北方的幾艘U艇也未能收到英國人推進的電碼警告，這使得舍爾預期中的伏擊成為了「徹底而令人失望的失敗」。[35]在UB-12號所處的部隊中，只有UB-10號發現了哈維奇部隊（英語：Harwich Force），但它離得太遠，無法發動攻擊。[35]由於U艇未能在伏擊戰中摧毀任何英國主力艦，導致在5月31日－6月1日爆發的日德蘭海戰時，大艦隊能夠以滿編姿態與數量上處於劣勢的公海艦隊交戰。[36]

在基爾調任新入役的布雷潛艦UC-18號之後，格奧爾格·格特中尉於6月26日接任UB-12號艇長。[7]兩個月後，舍爾將軍為英國艦隊設置了另一次伏擊，當時他們制定了公海艦隊再度襲擊桑德蘭的計劃（正如5月的初衷）。德國艦隊計劃於8月18日當天晚些時候啟程，並在次日上午炮擊軍事目標。與5月時一樣，UB-12號是一支旨在攻擊哈維奇部隊的小組成員。[註 5]作為法蘭德斯區艦隊組成第二條船位線的五艘潛艦之一，UB-12號於8月20日上午被部署至泰瑟爾附近。[37]再一次，英國情報部門對即將到來的攻擊和埋伏發出了警告，使得大艦隊於8月18日16:00出擊，比公海艦隊的開航早了5個小時。錯誤的情報導致舍爾首先從桑德蘭改道，然後最終取消了整個行動。儘管在北部的U艇擊沉了兩艘英國輕巡洋艦，[註 6]但UB-12號及其團隊並未參與其中。[37]

9月，格特率領UB-12號又擊沉了兩艘船，並繳獲第三艘船作為戰利品。313總噸的挪威輪船利爾達號（Rilda）於9月6日沉沒，[40]而55總噸的英國平底漁船馬喬里號（Marjorie）則於28日沉沒。[41]在此期間，荷蘭輪船尼俄伯號（Niobe）於7日作為戰利品被扣押。[42]

改裝為布雷艇 編輯

UB-12號及其三艘姊妹艇——UB-10、UB-16和UB-17號一同，於1918年之前被全部改裝成布雷潛艦。UB-12號從1916年11月至1917年1月身處船塢，很可能是在這段時間完成改裝。改裝措施包括移除每艘U艇由一對魚雷發射管所組成的艇艏部分，並替換為一個包含四個布雷斜槽的新艇艏，其中每個斜槽能夠貯存兩枚水雷。在此過程中，這些潛艦的艇身被加長至32公尺，水面排水量增加至147噸，水下排水量則增至161噸。[43]

與此同時，格特於1916年11月4日調任UC-61號，其在UB-12號的艇長職位由海軍中尉弗里德里希·默克接替。[8]當艇只完成改裝後，恩斯特·施泰恩多夫中尉又於1917年1月取代了默克。[9]

至3月，這艘新改裝的潛艦開始在法國海岸附近布雷。此舉造成了法國海軍武裝拖網船（英語：Naval trawler）伊莉莎白號（Elisabeth）於3月13日在加來附近觸雷沉沒。[44]五天後，英國輔助掃雷艦蒙特羅斯公爵夫人號（英語：PS Duchess of Montrose）也在引爆了UB-12號於格拉沃利訥附近布設的水雷後沉沒，造成12人罹難。[45]3月23日，隸屬多佛爾巡邏隊（英語：Dover Patrol）的英國海軍驅逐艦拉福雷號（英語：HMS Laforey (1913)）又在灰鼻岬（英語：Cap Gris-Nez）附近撞上了UB-12號布設的水雷並沉沒，共造成59名官兵陣亡。[46]

4月有兩艘受害船舶被納入UB-12號的戰功。20日，另一艘英國輔助掃雷艦尼保林號在戴克燈船附近由UB-12號布設的雷區內沉沒。[47]六天後，裝載著坑木（英語：Pit prop）駛向敦克爾克的英國輪船阿爾阿馬號（Alhama）觸雷。[48]這艘註冊噸位為1744噸的貨輪是繼去年4月的錫爾克斯沃思莊園號沉沒之後，UB-12號擊沉的最大一艘船。[23]

5月，UB-12號與UB-39號共同前往英吉利海峽巡邏。[49]5月14－15日夜間，當UB-12號浮出水面時，[50]施泰恩多夫注意到幾英里外的英國雷區發生了一次巨大的水下爆炸；當UB-39號未能返回澤布呂赫的法蘭德斯基地時，他報告稱，UB-39號很可能被英國水雷擊毀了。[51]

在施泰恩多夫的指揮下，UB-12號於6月和7月又分別擊沉了一艘船：6月10日，裝載著煤炭從錫厄姆（英語：Seaham）開往倫敦的達利奇號（Dulwich）觸雷後沉沒，5人遇難；[52]一個月後，法國海軍拖網船朱庇特一號（Jupiter I）在加來附近觸雷。[53]這是UB-12號在接下來的十四個月里，最後兩艘被記入水雷戰功的船舶。[23]

結局 編輯

UB-12號在接下來一年的活動沒有得到妥善記錄，在相關文獻中也找不到具體闡述。但據悉，在此期間它曾先後受4位艇長指揮，[1]其中最後一位艇長、海軍中尉恩斯特·舍勒於1918年5月就任。[13]在舍勒的指揮下，UB-12號於8月19日離開澤布呂赫，前往肯特郡沿岸的唐斯錨區（英語：The Downs (ship anchorage)）附近布雷，但再也沒有返回。[54]據一份英國消息源稱，UB-12號是於8月的某個時候在黑爾戈蘭海域不慎引爆了自己布設的水雷。[55]海軍歷史學家德懷特·梅西默認為這不大可能，因為黑爾戈蘭距離UB-12號前往唐斯的路線太遠了。[54]德國在戰後的一項研究得出結論，UB-12號最有可能的兩種命運是，要麼撞上了英國的水雷，要麼是被布設過程中失靈的自身水雷所摧毀。[54]梅西默還認為，UB-12號也可能是發生了一次潛水事故，這與它被改裝為一艘布雷艇有關。[54]

大約在UB-12號失蹤兩個月後，被計入其戰功的最後一艘船沉沒。[23]10月27日，即戰爭結束前兩周，92總噸的英國海軍拖網船蒲包花號（Calceolaria）在彎頭燈船附近撞上了UB-12號布設的水雷並沉沒。[56]
